Dedicated to Sharing God’s Love
Our Missions Committee seeks to provide opportunities and encouragement for each person associated with First Christian Church to find ways to share God’s overwhelming love we have received with others.
We have been honored to participate in God’s action of healing and hope in a number of ways. We are seeking understanding and openness to God’s call into the future…
First Christian Church congregational members are individually already serving others in many, incredibly diverse and personal ways.
Missions is actively seeking new members to work with us, inspire and lead in response to God’s call. Maybe it is the nudge you’ve been feeling….
We’d love to hear from you!
Partnerships That Bring Blessings
As a congregation and church family, we have established programs unique to First Christian, as well as getting involved in local, national and global causes.
In addition to the missions below, our congregation frequently raises funds for international projects such as disaster relief and other global emergencies.

A ministry begun by First Christian, this mission to feed the hungry has grown to encompass multiple Dilworth-area churches. Lunch is served every Monday at our facility, and our partner churches have taken other days of the week.
First Christian is continuously working to support our Montagnard members’ successful integration into the mainstream US. This support has included informal tutoring for school-age children, Bible Study in remedial English, support for Habitat Homes built for and by members, and assistance with forms and red-tape for our families struggling with both the English language and our societal systems like the educational system necessary for survival here in the USA.
First Christian Church leaders are also offering support and advocacy on a national level to Montagnard families and relatives of our members who are still in Vietnam facing beatings, imprisonment, and multiple losses including loss of their land needed for survival, all for simply trying to gather to worship God.
Our congregation jumps in to support many Habitat projects, but especially those built for fellow church members—most of them immigrant Montagnard families.
First Christian participates in national and international outreach through the work of the Week of Compassion. Week of Compassion is the relief, refugee and development mission fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada.
We seek to equip and empower disciples to alleviate the suffering of others through disaster response, humanitarian aid, sustainable development and the promotion of mission opportunities.
Crisis Assistance Ministry serves families facing financial crisis by providing emergency rent and utility assistance, clothing, furniture, and household goods and the tools to pursue financial stability.
Missions is encouraging the congregation to provide regular donations to Loaves & Fishes, a Charlotte organization that provides food for individuals and families with the most need in our community. Every month, we collect a different item that might otherwise fall through the cracks at Loaves & Fishes. The items are gathered on Sunday and taken to the appropriate facilities during the week.
Local community support for high-poverty schools and their teachers.
Our congregation is part of the North American Pacific Asian Disciples of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), offering opportunities for connection and advocacy for Asian communities of faith throughout the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Our Little Free Pantry is now accepting food donations during COVID-19. Please give what you can to those in need. Pictured right: Canned goods, water, and other food items currently being provided to the community.
